ESD-SIC views socially responsible production as important, and thereby aims to do the following:
Subsidies and compensatory measures for CO2 emissions and energy consumption must facilitate the transition to close the economic gap with global competitors, so that viable sustainability initiatives can be created while preserving the right to exist.
As a forerunner in the global SiC market in terms of the environment, saving energy and process technology, ESD-SIC wants to increase the sustainability of its production process in the period up to 2030. To make the ESD-SIC production process futureproof, sustainable raw materials and green electricity will have to be used, and residual waste streams (such as process gas) sustainably exploited in cooperation with chain partners.
Reducing the carbon footprint of ESD-SIC’s silicon carbide could be attractive in the future for customers who want to make their products more sustainable.
ESD-SIC has also successfully implemented a programmatic approach in recent years to minimise the number of process failures, such as ovens blowing. The typical odour nuisance has also been significantly reduced over the years. Work is currently underway on a follow-up programme to further minimise the emission of harmful substances and bad odours.
